A short film by Kyle Browne and Stan Strickland.
The short film Spirit Sensing: Anima of the Quarry was produced in Gloucester, MA by the Manship Artists Residency and B-Roll Films. Our role was to cover a performance event at Manship Artist Residency by Cape Ann native, Kyle Browne and her collaborator Stan Strickland. Once we reviewed the footage captured we determined it should be a short film and took on the project of editing it to cinemagraphic standards, adding surround sound and digitally removing objects that would take you away from the magical space created. We also did all the film submissions and festival presentations. It premiered in Vienna Austria in the fall of 2024, and has been recognized with 10 international awards including best editing, best art direction, best cinematography, and best original score.
By producing the recording of this performance as an art film the impact of and communicative reach of the project was greatly expanded and elevated. The filmwas able to win Best Short in the Roma Spiritually Festival in Rome Italy and was invited to the 2024 Symposium on Spirituality and Art at Harvards Divinity School.
A woman takes a deep breath, opens her senses, and rows a small boat into an old quarry to find a portal to another dimension of wonder and interconnectedness. This film is a narrative of exploration with music and performance but no dialog, encouraging us to transcend our beliefs to include the spirit of the nature and its manifestations.
The goal for the film is to invite people into a magical world of wonder, honor the the land and all people, spread a message of creative connection and interchange. This is a message than could be equally useful in the promotion of the Artist Residency, the Artists involved and ourselves as a film company showing the power creating art to also promote art.
The successful fundraising event (August 15, 2024) at the Little Art Cinema in Rockport made touring the film possible. The evening was filled with excitement, featuring a lively performance by Kyle Browne and Stan Strickland, along with an exclusive screening of their award-winning short film, “Spirit Sensing: Anima of the Quarry.” Attendees enjoyed a welcoming atmosphere with fresh popcorn, live music by Bob Toabe, and the chance to mingle with artists and fellow culture enthusiasts. The event garnered significant press coverage, highlighting the unique blend of film and performance art. A Q&A session allowed the audience to engage directly with the artists, deepening their connection to the work and its themes. The vibrant energy of the night showcased the community’s support for independent filmmaking and the arts. Overall, the fundraiser was not only a fun and memorable experience but also a crucial step in facilitating the film’s upcoming premiere at the Vienna Independent Film Festival. The enthusiasm and participation of the attendees played a vital role in making this artistic journey a reality.
