The NetWorks – Art + Fishing + Community  – Explore the history, thrill, tenacity and current struggles of Gloucester’s commercial fishermen against the backdrop of America’s oldest seaport.

This art documentary depicts a four-year project initiated by Manship Artists Residency and directed by Erika Senft Miller in which artists and fishermen join forces to create a public, immersive multi-sensory art installation celebrating the fishing heritage of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Miller originally from Germany and now living in Burlington, Vermont discovers an amazing community of collaborators including to pull off an impressive art installation connecting our communities.

The spirit of the art project lived on in the film project becoming not just a celebration of the past but a very relevant look into the present. For the 25 year anniversary of the loss of the F/V Andrea Gail to the current very tragic loss of F/V Lily Jean , to battle with government regulation, corporate pressures, changing weather, and the mysteries of the deep blue ocean, this community still faces many challenges. Get a glimpse into their history and lived experience and leave with an understanding of the role we all play in keeping this community alive and thriving in hopes of mending this net for generations to come.
